HONG KONG — A delegation of seven prominent Beijing technology companies visited The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) to establish extensive research partnerships spanning artificial intelligence education, embodied intelligence, new media studies, and talent development.
The delegation, organized by the Zhongguancun Beijing-Hong Kong-Macau Youth Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center, included representatives from Beijing Yunji Technology Co., Ltd., Mininglamp Technology, Mech-Mind Robotics, Tashan Technology, ModelBest, SudoX Ai, and Lenovo Filez. The high-level engagement resulted in a series of concrete collaboration agreements, with multiple projects expected to launch in the coming months.
University Leadership Hosts Strategic Meeting
President Professor John Lee received the delegation at Tai Po Campus. The exchange meeting was chaired by Vice President (Research and Development) Professor Chetwyn Chan. Vice President (Administration) and Secretary to Council Dr Tom Fong, Associate Vice President (Knowledge Transfer and Sustainability) Professor Ken Yung, Assistant Vice President (Research) Professor Michelle Gu, as well as faculty members representing the Academy of Education and Human Development, Academy for Educational Development and Innovation, Department of Mathematics and Information Technology, Department of Special Education and Counselling,Department of Curriculum and Teaching and knowledge transfer officials have attended the meeting.
Groundbreaking Research Achievements on Display
EdUHK presented its research development strategy and knowledge transfer ecosystem, highlighting multiple award-winning innovations. The university showcased applications that have secured gold medals at the Geneva International Inventions Exhibition, including the world's first automated strabismus measurement device, an intelligent hand joint assessment system that reduces evaluation time from 40 minutes to 5 minutes, and EmoCare, a psychology and mental health application already contracted for commercial promotion.
The University also introduced its three major industry-academia-research bases, established in conjunction with the Shenzhen Research Institute, Cyberport, and Hong Kong Science Park, which provide channels for improving the efficiency of industry-academia-research transformation of the university's research outcomes, linking industries, and sharing incubation resources and policy support.
Industry Leaders Bring World-Class Capabilities
The visiting enterprises represent top-tier players in their respective sectors. Beijing Yunji Technology holds the global market leadership in hotel service robotics with an over 80% market share and is listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. Mininglamp Technology drives growth through digital marketing and AI for Science, maintaining dual listings on both mainland and Hong Kong exchanges. Mech-Mind Robotics leads globally in industrial 3D vision and AI-powered robotics and has established operations in Hong Kong's Digital Port. Tashan Technology commands over 80% of the global tactile perception chip market and holds national status as a "specialized and sophisticated little giant" enterprise. ModelBest stands as a leader in edge-side large language models with technology originating from Tsinghua University's NLP team. SudoX Ai focuses on AI-driven marketing data vertical modeling. Lenovo Filez from the Lenovo Group is rapidly expanding its intelligent collaboration across Hong Kong and Macau.
Four-Pronged Collaboration Framework
Following intensive negotiations, the parties outlined four key collaboration pathways:
- Integrated Research Ecosystem: Enterprises will open access to proprietary data and technology tools while EdUHK provides theoretical frameworks and research methodologies, jointly generating both research outcomes and commercial value. Mininglamp Technology has already signed a comprehensive cooperation agreement with EdUHK in new media and social media research.
- Technology Implementation and Testing: The partners will establish joint laboratories focused on robotic chassis secondary development and tactile sensing education applications, beginning with pilot programs before gradual rollout.
- Talent Exchange and Development: Multiple enterprises have opened internship positions, and both parties will jointly develop micro-credential courses and expand doctoral joint-training programs.
- Industry Standards and Ecosystem Development: The collaboration will support joint participation in industry standard-setting, leverage the Zhongguancun network of over 3,000 startups alongside EdUHK's entrepreneurship ecosystem, and jointly organize competitions and project pitches connecting student ventures with industrial resources. A "Beijing-Hong Kong Youth Innovation Cup" will be co-hosted.
Commitment to Accelerated Knowledge Transfer
Professor Chetwyn Chan stated that EdUHK will leverage its strengths in education, academics, and applied research, closely integrating them with industry's engineering capabilities and implementation channels. This will align classroom and laboratory settings with enterprise needs, enabling research results to reach the market more quickly and significantly enhancing EdUHK's two-way transformation capabilities between industry and academia. Zhang Kai, Director of the Zhongguancun Beijing-Hong Kong-Macau Youth Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center, stated: "Our center will continue serving as an official platform, bridging innovation resources between Beijing and Hong Kong, and ensuring systematic implementation of today's collaborative outcomes."
Projects Already Moving Forward
Several initiatives have entered the initiation phase. Tashan Technology will host the "Robot Kindergarten" open-source activity on September 1st, inviting EdUHK participation. EdUHK has begun distributing meeting outcomes to relevant faculty and directors, with priority given to projects showing clear intent, including robotic chassis secondary development, dexterous manipulation systems, and new media research. Student internship matching, corporate operations in Digital Port, and joint curriculum development will proceed on an ongoing basis.
